The CNMI Men’s National Team played its first international competition in 2007 when it challenged Guam for two games in the inaugural Marianas Cup, which also served as a two-legged tie for the 2008 East Asian Football Federation Championship Preliminary Round. The CNMI lost Game 1 held on Saipan, 2-3, and the Guam-hosted Game 2, 0-9.
After its debut in the international scene, the CNMI went on to compete in several EAFF and Asian Football Confederation-sanctioned tournaments and the Marianas Cup. In 2014, the national squad made history for the islands’ men’s football after earning its first international victory—a 2-1 triumph over Macau in the Preliminary Round 1 of the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup held in Guam.
Today, the CNMI men’s national team program continues to train for international competition under the guidance of head coach Michiteru Mita.
