Lopsided wins in M-League opening week

Three teams waltzed past their respective opponents in Division A to start their campaign in the 2018 spring season of the M-League on high gear.
Fall season champion TanHoldings Football Club set the tone in Week 1 of the triple-header in the division following its 7-1 victory over the Teen Ayuyus in the first game last Sunday at the Hopwood Middle School Field. Then in the second match, Paire Football Club shut down Okadaya, 4-0, while in the third tiff, MP United Football Club clobbered Kanoa Football Club, 12-0.
MP United had the win in the bag right at the end of the first half as it built an 8-0 advantage behind the five goals of Sunjoon Tenorio. Jonathan Capayas chipped in two, while the returning Timothy Tawanpiy added one for MP United in the first half.
Then in the second half, Tenorio showed no mercy, as he knocked in all of his team’s four goals in the final 45 minutes of play to lead MP United’s rout of the hapless Kanoa crew.
In the first game, TanHoldings won its early faceoff against the team it defeated during the 2017 fall season finale.
Martin Jambor starred in TanHoldings’ easy victory over the Teen Ayuyus after firing four goals. Sean Perez, Jershwin Angeles, and Ryan Relucio contributed one apiece, while the Teen Ayuyus’ lone goal came from Rintaro Miyawaki.
In the second game, Daniel Agulto lifted Paire past Okadaya after drilling a pair of goals. He got his first in the 21st minute and the second in the 33rd. Paire had an own goal in the first half off Okadaya’s miscue, while Dai Podziewski delivered the team’s other goal in the second half when he scored in the 84th minute.
DIVISION B KFAS 11, Shirley’s 4 Over at the Koblerville Elementary School Field, Korean Football Association on Saipan hammered Shirley’s Football Club. Hwapyoung Kim and Oliver Lee teamed up in powering KFAS past Shirley’s as each made a hat trick. Lee posted all his three goals in the first half to hand KFAS a 6-2 advantage. Edwin Kim added two goals, while Juan Oh tallied one in the opening half. Hwapyoung then picked up where Lee left off, recording three of KFAS’ last four goals in the second half. Jun Woo Lee also hit the board in the final 45 minutes of play, while Oh got his second in the second frame, too.
PIC 4, U16 WNT 4 In the second game, the U16 Women’s National Team spoiled Pacific Islands Club’s debut in the league after forcing a draw. Emma Suemasu made back-to-back goals for the U16 WNT, including the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Her first goals was registered in the 56th minute, while Janelle Chognaki also had a brace after lighting up the board in the 22nd and 26th. Chognaki’s pair came after PIC established an early 2-0 advantage, courtesy of Albert Bergancia’s conversion in the third and seventh minute. Ezekiel Canape then put PIC on top anew, 3-2, midway in the second half, but Suemasu tied the match again in the 56th. Two minutes later, PIC regained the upper hand, thanks to Bergancia’s third goal, however Suemasu countered for another deadlock, which was not broken in the remaining minutes of the close match.
Matansa 1, Sun Palace 1 The third game in the division also ended in a draw with Matansa’s Amzad Khan saving the day for his team.
Amzad delivered the game-tying goal in the 50th minute. Earlier in the 20th minute, Daniel Mar Pablo hit his target to put Sun Palace on the board.
