Southern United, MPU in semis

Southern United Football Club and MP United took different routes to the semifinals of the girls U16 division of the 2018 NMIFA Spring Youth League.
MP United eased its way to the Final Four after crushing Paire FC, 10-2, last Saturday at the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Field, while Southern United pulled off a 1-0 triumph over TanHoldings in the second playoff game in the division.
Stella McCallion powered MP United to the easy win after scoring four goals. She got her rhythm in the second half after making only one goal in the first. The MP United striker, who had her first goal in the 23rd minute), earned her second right in the fourth minute of the final half, while her last two were registered in the 54th and 57th.
Maury Zon Tybaco backed up McCallion, adding three goals. Tybaco drew first blood for MP United with her goal in the fourth minute, while her final two came in the 36th and 63rd. Aubrey Castro, Francesca Bucalig, and Audrey Castro contributed one field goal each, hitting the board in the eighth, 32nd, and 50th minute, respectively.
Paire got its pair of goals from Summer Manahane in the 30th and 56th minute.
Meanwhile, Marinel Joy Falalimpa brought Southern United to the semifinals after scoring the lone goal (seventh minute) in their playoff match against TanHoldings.
With the close win, Southern United arranged a duel against No. 2 seed Shirley’s FC and they will battle for the second finals berth this Saturday at 2:30pm. MP United and No. 1 seed Kanoa FC will fight for the first finals ticket, also this Saturday at 1pm.
BOYS U18 DIVISION MP United 5, TanHoldings 0 MP United triumphed, too in the boys U18 division after shutting down TanHoldings in a make-up game last Friday at the Hopwood Middle School Field.
With the victory, MP United boosted its title bid in the age group, as the team is now on top of the team standings. MP United improved to a 5-1-0 win-draw-loss record, while TanHoldings dropped to second with its 4-1-1 mark.
Oliver Fajardo and Sunjoon Tenorio scored two goals apiece to hand MP United the easy win, while Dai Podziewski tallied the other goal for the solo leader. Podziewski found the back of the net in the sixth minute, while Fajardo delivered his pair in the 38th and 68th, and Tenorio did the same in the 63rd and 72nd minute.
MP United has two games left (against Matansa this Saturday and versus TanHoldings on March 28) and a sweep will hand the squad the division crown this season.
Kanoa 5, Matansa 2 Kanoa moved up to third place after beating Matansa.
Kanoa now has a 3-0-4 record, dislodging Matansa at the No. 3 spot, as the latter fell to a 2-2-2.
Andruw Omelau towed Kanoa to its third victory after firing four goals, while Jhoey Noble made the other goal for the winning squad. Joshua De Leon registered both goals for Matansa.
