HMS wins, TMS and SIS draw in MS girls soccer
In the return of school soccer, Hopwood Middle School girls beat Dandan Middle School, 6-1; while Tanapag Middle School ended their game against Saipan International School in a draw, 2-2, in the 2022-2023 NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League on Tuesday NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
The HMS Hilitais put their cleats into action early as Alyssa Borlongan opened the season with a goal down the middle in the 6th minute of play. Teammate Yelynn Ha then found the back of the net not 4 minutes later for a 2-0 game.
Borlongan was an unstoppable force on the field as she calibrated her kicks precisely for the second time in the 18th minute, then rounded it off with a third for the hat-trick in the 39th minute.
Ha followed her lead as she also completed the hat trick after her second goal in the 14th minute and third goal in the 20th minute.
By this time, the DMS Tottots had finally broken through the goal and were up on the scoreboard thanks to Jahsmin Ramon’s shot 30 minutes into the game.
However, father time wasn’t on the Tottots’ side as the game ended with no more attempts at the goal.
In the TMS Tatagas and SIS Geckos game, a battle to break the tie ensued for the last half of the game with none of them successful.
The Geckos’ Beatrice Gross drew first blood in the early minutes of the first half and went on to score the team’s second goal three minutes later.
Meanwhile, the Tatagas did not have any attempts at the goal that stuck in the first half, with their first goal made by Isabella Cruz in the 38th minute. The second goal was made by teammate Xyriel Pascual 5 minutes later for a 2-2 game.
The Geckos and Tatagas had no more goals in them as the clock wound down in sync with the sunset.
The rest of the teams playing this season are Francisco M. Sablan Middle School and ChaCha Ocean View Middle School.
The games are set for every Tuesday and Thursday, with the scheduled championship tourney on March 7.
