Kanoa, MPU lead Intermediate B Division of Dove Women’s League
THE Kanoa Football Club slipped past the Matansa Football Club, 1-0, in the Intermediate B Division of the Dove Women’s League Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville. Kanoa’s aggressive approach worked in their favor as they constantly went for the “kill” and gradually wore down Matansa’s line of defense. After 14 minutes of back-and-forth action, Kanoa was finally rewarded by Hannah Santos’ goal to grasp the lead, 1-0. Kanoa then prioritized defense while Matansa focused on equalizing the score. Kanoa, however, managed to stand their ground through the remainder of the first half and the entire second half to win the match and share overall first-place with MPU in the team standings with one win each.
In other games MP United had the chance to take the overall lead but had to settle for a 0-0 draw with the Tan Holdings Football Club instead. Also earning their first win of the season were the Paire Football Club which defeated Shirley’s Football Club, 3-1. Paire’s Vina Seelam took over the first half of the match with back-to-back goals at the 12th and 13th minute marks to put her team in control, 2-0. In the second half, Paire locked in the victory with Ali Nelson scoring a goal at the 40th minute mark. Although Shirley’s could not prevent the inevitable defeat, they went down fighting with Kate Ocanada slipping through at the 50th minute mark to make it 1-3.
