Marianas Soccer League 2 kicks off

THE Marianas Soccer League 2 kicked off Sunday with Chang Bai Hu, the Women’s Development Team and MP United Football Club beating their respective opponents at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Chang Bai Hu won a hard fought match against Matansa Football Club, 1-0.

The first half was filled with back-and-forth action and several missed goals.

Both teams continued to play as equals throughout the second half, but during the last 20 minutes of the match, Chang Bai Hu’s persistence paid off as they eventually controlled the pace and possession which led to Xiong Zhe Li’s game-winning goal at the 56th minute mark.

Matansa was unable to equalize and had to settle for defeat, 0-1.

MP United vs Shirley’s 2

Joining the winner’s circle was MP United Football Club which outplayed Shirley’s Football Club 2, 6-3.

The steady performance of MPU was their biggest strength. They grasped control early with Gaige Porras draining the opening goal at the 2nd minute of the first half while two more goals were delivered by team mates James Salalila and Franco Flores for a 3-0 lead.

Before reaching halftime, Angie Ito of Shirley’s 2 managed to find the back of the net to cut MPU’s lead, 1-3.

During the second half, Shirley’s 2 adjusted their play and were rewarded at the 59th minute by Josephine Cardelle’s goal which further reduced the deficit, 2-3.

MPU, however, went on a scoring spree with Salalila, Juanito Sambile, and Keoni Serrano connecting three consecutive goals to regain a comfortable 6-2 advantage.

Shirley’s 2 could not escape defeat, but went down fighting with Anthony Kubo delivering a last-minute shot to ease the pain, 3-6.

WDT vs Shirley’s 1

The third team to join the winner’s circle was the Women’s Development Team which shut down Shirley’s Football Club 1, 4-0.

Three of the WDT goals were made in the second half by Pia Ngewakl, Irish Pagarao and Jannah Casarino while Allyssya Angeles scored the initial goal in the opening half.
