MHS earns back-to-back wins in girls high school soccer

MARIANAS High School continues to ride the momentum in the girls high school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League by beating Saipan Southern High School and Saipan International School, 5-2 and 5-3, on Tuesday and Wednesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Against SSHS on Tuesday, MHS set the tone early thanks to Jannah Casarino who found the back of the net at the 6th minute mark for a 1-0 lead.

After filling the field with back-and-forth action, SSHS turned the tables and their efforts were rewarded at the 21st minute mark by Neriah Lumbad and by Christina Atalig three minutes later to snatch control, 2-1.

In the second half, MHS played more aggressively with Rizza Relucio igniting the run at the 35th minute mark while Casarino completed the hat-trick with two consecutive goals at the 48th and 50th minute marks to give MHS the lead once again, 5-2.

SSHS tried to catch up, but failed to break through MHS’ wall of defense and had to settle for defeat.

On Wednesday against SIS, MHS exploded in the first half with Tamia Kileleman-Hix and Jannah Casarino each connecting a pair of goals. Audrey Castro tried to keep SIS in the game by scoring twice to cut the lead, 2-4.

The offensive action slowed down in the second half with only one goal made on both ends. MHS then held onto its lead to outlast SIS, 5-3.
