MHS, MCS triumph in boys soccer

MARIANAS High School and Mount Carmel School notched separate victories Tuesday in the boys high school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

MHS now sits on the top of the food chain after earning their third win by defeating Saipan International School, 4-0.

MHS scored all four goals in the opening half. As soon as the ball dropped, MHS’ Brian Lubao found the back of the net to set the tempo. Although SIS fought back defensively, they could only hold off the MHS assault for a brief moment.

In the 17th minute, MHS resumed their attack with Anthony Bergancia reigniting the flames followed by Cody Shimizu’s highlight two minutes later and Dylan Mister’s goal in the 23rd minute for a 4-0 advantage.

After the halftime break, SIS played better defense, but they could not break through MHS’ line of defense and had to settle for defeat.

MCS vs SSHS

Mount Carmel School bagged their second win of the season after besting Saipan Southern High School JV, 4-1.

MCS played aggressively and was rewarded with a free point after SSHS accidently scored in their own goal.

MCS continued to ride the momentum with Leo Naraga and Raymond Salas delivering their team’s second and third goals for a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, SSHS finally broke the silence thanks to Brent Villafuerta’s goal, but MCS’ Ohane Borja returned fire to secure the win, 4-1.
