MP United beats Paire in women’s soccer
THE MP United Football Club clinched their debut win in the Flores-Pee Luwal (Intermediate) Division of the 2022 Dove Women’s League after slipping past the Paire Football Club, 1-0, Friday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
After a scoreless first half, the action started to pick up in the second half with both teams making several shot attempts.
MP United eventually broke through Paire’s defensive wall allowing Dustian Faisao to connect the one and only goal of the day and give her team a 1-0 lead.
Pair still had time to equalize, but they couldn’t get through MP United’s defense and had to settle for defeat.
Other matches
The Matansa Football Club bagged their opening win by edging Shirley’s Football Club, 2-1.
Both teams opened up the first half with a goal each. First was Matansa’s Vianca Mangulabnan who connected a shot at the 14th minute mark. Shirley’s Werlly Breakenridge then replied with a goal of her own at the 25th minute mark to even the score, 1-1.
At the start of the second half, Matansa’s Elna Curate managed to sneak in a goal to give her team the lead.
Shirley’s came close to equalizing but was unable to convert.
In their match, the Kanoa and Tan Holdings football clubs played excellent defense and had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
