NMI Women's U18 soccer team beats Guam in friendly game


THE CNMI Women's U18 National Team defeated Guam U18 4-0 in a friendly match Saturday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center in Dededo.

The CNMI women’s U18 soccer players currently training on Guam are Julianne Hall, Jannah Casarino, Christina Atalig, Allyssya Magno Angeles, Summer Manahane, Rizza Relucio, Pia Ngewakl, Mia Abuan, Andrei Chavez, Tamia Kileleman-Hix, Tyana Kileleman-Hix, Aubrey Castro, Audrey Castro, Sophia Quintos, Deseha Mendiola, Cassie Regan, Joselynn Atalig, Julie Chavez, Fiona Regan and Kaye Costales.

With them are head coach Lalaine Pagarao, assistant coach Mat Ito, team manager Mikky Vargas and assistant team manager Jhaza Marino.



Against their Guam counterparts on Saturday, the CNMI U18 women led by Allyssya Angeles scored the opening goal which was followed by another point delivered by Janah Casarino.

In the second half, the CNMI added two more goals courtesy of Kaithlyn Chavez and Tamia Hix to finish the match 4-0.

“The first win is important to boost the players’ confidence,” said CNMI head coach Lalaine Pagarao. “However, we still have a lot of work to do so the girls have to come out strong again in the next game and play as a team.”


Men’s friendly match

As for the CNMI Men's National Team, they lost to their Guam counterparts, 0-2, in their friendly match.

Defense was the main source of action, but Guam was more persistent offensively with Ryan Quitugua and Devin Mendiola scoring goals for the home team.

“Keep your heads up and learn from this,” CNMI Men’s National Team coach Michiteru Mita said after the loss. “This is what we came for — learn from the game and work on improving our skills and tactics individually and as a team.”

The CNMI’s men and women soccer teams flew to Guam on Friday, Feb. 18, to participate in a week-long training camp.
