Paire reigns supreme in Dove Masters division
Paire Football Club secured their kingdom in the soccer realm, reigning supreme in the finals against Kanoa FC, 4-1, in the 2024 Fall Dove Women’s League Masters Division last Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
It was a spectacle of regal brilliance and exceptional skill as both teams duked it out on the pitch for the coveted title.
Paire boasted an undefeated record of eight wins in the regular season and carried their excellence into the playoffs. Under the setting sky over Koblerville, they shone as brightly as ever, showcasing their dominance early.
Paire’s Shawna Brennfleck scored a goal 15 minutes into the match, giving her team a 1-0 lead. However, Kanoa refused to settle for being mere subjects in the finals. Mariquit Chavez leveled the playing field in the 25th minute, making it 1-1.
The draw held as both teams turned the season’s final matchup into a fierce battle for dominion, each side trading blows like kingdoms at war.
Finally, Natalie Hill-Beyer of Paire broke through Kanoa’s defenses in the 40th minute to regain the lead, 2-1. From there, Hill-Beyer asserted her rule over the pitch, doubling her tally in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Lindsay Davis delivered the final blow in the 60th minute, sealing the game at 4-1.
Despite Kanoa’s best efforts to rally and reclaim the lead, they fell to their knees as time ran out. Paire ascended their throne after the final whistle, cementing their legacy as champions.
Paire’s right midfielder Patricia Coleman said of their finals, “Kanoa did a great job and held us to a draw for a significant part of the match.” She added, “I’m proud of our team for remaining in a positive head space the entire match. Maria Ornes is a fantastic captain!”
She then said, “a huge thanks to chairwoman [Catherine] Attao-Toves and the Women’s Committee for doing an excellent job collaboratively organizing the season! We also appreciate the referees!”
Aside from Coleman, Paire included Lindsay Davis, Arielle Buyum, Natalie Hill-Beyer, Marisol Ladino, Terra Allen, Amanda Dunn, Rhonda Gross, April Liske-Clark, Angie Mister, Maria Ornes, Angela Ruiz, and Shawna Brennfleck.
The Fairplay Award was given to Kanoa’s keeper Christy Villaflor for her sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
Third place was Latte FC after they blanked Matansa FC, 1-0.
