Shirley’s bags 4th win, leads Dove Women’s premier division

SHIRLEY’S Football Club are the number one team in the Tinakcha-Awaal or Premier Division of the Dove Women’s League with four wins after pummeling TakeCare, 7-1, Wednesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Shirley’s were simply unmatched in skills with each player on the field a scoring threat. After 15 minutes of play, they built enough momentum to launch an assault with Bernadette Horey delivering back-to-back goals at the 15th and 17th minute marks, before scoring again at the 30th minute mark for the hat-trick and a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Shirley’s continued to dominate throughout the second half as Horey remained the biggest offensive threat, connecting three more goals. Team mate Jhaza Mirano joined the scoreboard with a solo goal at the 61st minute mark.

Although Shirley’s had the win in the bag, TakeCare never gave up the fight and were finally rewarded at the 70th minute mark when Pia Ngewakl slipped through to find the back of the net and break the silence before settling for defeat, 1-7.

Winners, too

For their part, the Kanoa Football Club clinched their third victory of the season by defeating the Chamorritas, 3-1.

It was a fairly even match in the beginning as both teams filled the opening half with exchanges but neither was able to gain control.

The Chamorritas’ Rosie Saralu eventually break through Kanoa’s line of defense and scored a goal for a 1-0 lead.

But in the second half, Kanoa turned the tide with an all-out attack. Ye Lynn Ha acted as the sparkplug as she connected her team’s first goal while Allyssa Angeles kept the fire burning with two consecutive makes en route to victory, 3-1.
