Southern United, Shirley’s bag 4th win in U17 girls soccer
THE Southern United and Shirley’s football clubs beat their respective opponents Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center to remain at the top of the overall standings with four wins each in the U17 girls division of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League.
The Southern United Football Club played well in overpowering MP United Football Club, 5-1.
The first half of the match was filled with back-to-back exchanges, but after 20 minutes of action, SUFC started to break through MPU’s barrier to squeeze in a few shot attempts. Then, at the 26th minute mark, her SUFC team mates found Summer Manahane at the frontline where she fired and connected the first goal of the day, 1-0.
MPU quickly regrouped and turned the tables in the next three minutes with Irin Chung capitalizing on the transition play to find the back of the net and even the score, 1-1.
But MPU’s momentum was quickly killed as SUFC played more aggressively and controlled most of the possession. SUFC’s Rosie Saralu scored at the 38th minute mark which was followed by Pia Newakl’s back-to-back goals for a 4-1 lead.
MPU remained silent for the remainder of the match as they were forced to protect their end, but still could not withstand SUFC’s assault led by Manahane who unleashed a dagger shot at the 55th minute mark for a 5-1 win.
Shirley’s vs Paire
Shirley’s Football Club also performed well in beating the Paire Football Club, 6-2.
Hailey Benavente and Alyssa Borlongan led Shirley’s to victory with three and two goals, respectively while team mate Erish Carreon contributed a goal.
Paire’s goals were delivered by Martha Culp and Tsubakiko Joab.
