SUFC, Shirley’s bag wins in youth soccer playoffs

Southern United Football Club and Shirley’s Football Club won in the first game of the TakeCare NMIFA Youth Spring League 2023 U17 girls playoffs last Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The SUFC girls put on a dominating performance over MP United FC, 21-0, while Shirley’s won in a 5-2 final against Paire FC.

SUFC wasted no time establishing their dominance in the match as they have done in their previous matches, with a quick succession of goals in the first few minutes. Pia Newakl and Rizza Relucio led the charge as they scored two goals each not even eight minutes into the game.

SUFC kept up the pressure on the defense as MPU FC could not find their footing.

Newakl and Relucio scored four more goals each, while Summer Manahane contributed five of her own, Brianne Echalico scored two, and Rosie Saralu made one.

In a contrasting match, Shirley’s faced off with Paire FC in a more evenly matched game, with the former emerging victorious.

Shirley’s got off to a strong start, with Alyssa Borlongan scoring a goal in the fifth minute. Teammate Adalee Taflinger made it a 2-0 game in the 11th minute. However, Paire refused to remain scoreless as Phoenix Gross goaled in the 26th minute.

Both teams continued to battle it out on the field, with the game being a back-and-forth affair until the second half goal made by Borlongan put them into a 3-1 lead. She ended up scoring two more goals before Paire’s Sharmaine Kisa could score their second goal in the 58th minute.

14U GIRLS 5V5 Kanoa FC 9, Tan Holdings 3 In the 14U girls 5V5 matchup, Kanoa FC defeated Tan Holdings, 9-3. It was a free for all in the first half for Kanoa as they scored four goals—one by Beatrice Gross and Elikristiana Iglesias and two by Ye Lynn Ha.

Tan Holdings’ Angel Calayag replied with their first goal in the 18th minute, but Kanoa’s Faith Arriola quickly replied for a 5-1 game.

Xyriel Pascual cut the lead to three when she scored in the 23rd minute, but Beatrice Gross scored two fatal blows and lengthened their lead, 7-2. Tan Holdings could only score one more goal and it was all in vain as Kanoa scored two more.

Shirley’s FC 7, Paire FC 2 Shirley’s outgoaled Paire 7-2. Paire’s Mariana Tababa and Windsor Gross scored their two goals in the second and third minute.

However, that was all they could muster as Shirley’s Alyssa Borlongan scored a hat-trick, and Jackielyn Calage along with Ma Ferrer, Casidee Flores, and another player scored a goal each.
