Tanapag beats SIS to win boys middle school soccer title
TANAPAG Middle School on Thursday claimed the boys middle school division title of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League by defeating Saipan International School, 3-1, at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
TMS constantly went for the attack, and after only 10 minutes of play, frontliner Jayten Villagomez found the back of the net to hand his team control, 1-0.
SIS tightened their defense but to no avail as TMS broke through again at the 18th minute mark with big man Javen Camacho extending the deficit, 2-0.
In the second half, SIS started to find their own rhythm as they transitioned from defense to offense with well-placed shot attempts. Their relentless efforts eventually paid off as they forced TMS to score in their own goal by accident.
But TMS quickly recovered and turned the tide with continuous pressure. At the 33rd minute mark, Villagomez slipped through the cracks and unleashed a power shot to give TMS a more comfortable 3-1 lead.
With little time left, SIS had to settle for defeat.
TMS’ Jayten Villagomez’s was named Finals MVP while his teammate, Javen Camacho, earned the Golden Boot Award for scoring a total of16 goals in the season.
In the battle for third place, Mount Carmel School outplayed Saipan Community School, 4-1.
