WSR, GES, GCA advance to soccer semifinals
WILLIAM S. Reyes Elementary School 1 and 2, Garapan Elementary School 1 and Grace Christian Academy have secured spots in the elementary school division semifinals of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League after eliminating their respective opponents Friday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
WSR 1 advanced to the semifinals after blanking Koblerville Elementary School 1, 4-0.
WSR 1’s constant pressure was their key to victory as they never gave KoES 1 a chance to score from start to finish.
After just six minutes of play, Javiun Sablan Jr. delivered the opening goal of the day to put WSR 1 in charge.
KoES 1 managed to slow down the pace of the game with proper defense, but at the 19th minute mark, WSR 1’s Landin Reyes took advantage of a scuffle deep in enemy territory where he quickly reacted to a loose ball and found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead by halftime.
KoES 1 continued to struggle, allowing WSR 1’s Reyes to score again via penalty kick. Four minutes later, team mate Zavier Camacho delivered his team’s fourth goal to seal victory.
GCA vs KoES 2
Grace Christian Academy secured their semifinal spot by outplaying KoES 2, 3-1.
GCA’s Mateo Angeles drew first blood at the seventh minute mark followed by Tristan Torres 10 minutes later to give their team a 2-0 lead. In the second half, Torres scored GCA’s third goal at the 26th minute mark.
KoES 2 went down fighting with Suborna Shahk connecting their only goal at the 30th minute mark to ease the pain of defeat, 1-3.
GES 1 vs SIS
Garapan Elementary School 1 barged into the semifinals by trouncing Saipan International School, 6-1.
GES 1 scored four goals in the first half and two more in the second half. Rocky Reyes and Kanoa Owens led their team with two goals each.
As for WSR 2, they were given the win via forfeit as San Vicente Elementary School did not show up for their match.
