Chacha beats Tinian in middle school girls soccer

CHACHA Oceanview Middle School secured a slot in the knockout stage of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League, girls division, after blanking Tinian Jr. Sr. High School 4-0 on Saturday, April 2, at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

Chacha’s persistency, balanced teamwork and ball movement overwhelmed Tinian.

Once Chacha gained control of the tempo, the team created several openings that allowed Justidy Mizutani to find the back of the net at the seventh minute mark and give Chacha a 1-0 lead.

Chacha then continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the first half. Tinian tried to fend off the onslaught but Mizutani eventually struck again to widen Chacha’s lead, 2-0.

In the second half, Tinian played harder but failed to build enough firepower as their hands were full protecting their end of the turf.

After 29 minutes of play, Chacha broke through again, thanks to Mary Amog. Eleven minutes later, it was Destiny Cabanayan’s turn to score and give Chacha a 4-0 victory.

Joining the winner’s circle was Francisco M. Sablan Middle School which won against Saipan Community School via forfeit.

This Friday, the knockout stage for the championship title will pit Chacha against FMS while Hopwood Middle School goes mano a mano with Saipan International School. Both semifinal matches will be played at 4 p.m.
