Hong Kong silences NMI, 8-0
HONG Kong dominated the NMI Women’s U15 National Team, 8-0, in their game in the East Asian Football Confederation U15 Women’s Championship 2024 at the Dalian Football Youth Training Center in China on Tuesday.
The NMI went up against a tough opponent amid wet field conditions due to the rain, which made it hard for both teams to control the possession as well as pass with precision. But that did not stop Hong Kong from pushing forward with one goal in mind — to score.
After just three minutes of play, Hong Kong found themselves deep within enemy territory where they eventually overpowered the NMI in a scuffle, allowing Tsz Yau Wan to find the back of the net for the early lead, 1-0.
The NMI fought back, taking every chance they had to push forward, but Hong Kong prevented them from creating scoring opportunities.
Hong Kong solidified their dominance as Wan drained her second consecutive contribution at the 13th minute mark while Annabel Lucy Yue added the third goal at the 29th minute mark followed by another goal by Lei Ngai Moi just a minute after to extend the deficit before the halftime break, 4-0.
As the second half of the match progressed, the sky started to clear up, but that was not a good sign for the NMI as Hong Kong started to play more aggressively with Ching Lam Jaylynn Chong scoring at the 44th minute mark.
The NMI tried to stand their ground, but the continuous Hong Kong offensive gradually wore them down as three more goals were added by King Sum Hui at the 52nd, Ching Chong at the 65th, and Lei Ngai Moi at the 70th to end the game, 8-0.
On Friday, August 23, the NMI will play their fourth and final match of the competition against Guam.
In its two earlier matches, the NMI lost to Macau 1-2 and drew with Mongolia, 0-0.
Guam, for its part, has beaten Mongolia 1-0, and Macau 2-0, and will face Hong Kong on Sunday, Aug. 25.
