This week’s discussion focused on one important question:

How does proper sleep help you become a stronger athlete?

Players talked about:

  • How getting enough sleep helps their body recover and recharge
  • How proper sleep improves energy, reaction time, and focus
  • How sleep helps the brain remember new soccer skills and make smart decisions on the field
  • Healthy bedtime habits, like limiting screen time and sticking to a consistent bedtime routine
  • How alcohol and marijuana disrupt sleep, slow recovery, increase injury risk, and make it harder to perform at their best

Through training, players experienced firsthand how focus, quick reactions, and energy all work together to help them succeed.

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School After School Program, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.
