This week’s lesson showed our players that they can use flexible thinking to creatively look for another way when facing a tough situation.

Together, we talked about:

  • What to do when a passing lane is blocked
  • Why it’s okay to change your plan
  • How to come up with a healthy “Plan B”
  • Ways to respond when faced with pressure to make unhealthy choices
  • How positive teammates and trusted adults can help us find better options

During training, players practiced moving, checking their surroundings, communicating, and creating new passing angles when their original path is blocked.

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.

Every week we will share about our practical lessons, group discussion highlights, and soccer skills we learned to support our players as they Play Smart, Live Strong!
