This week’s lesson reminded our players that asking for help isn’t a weakness, it’s a winning strategy!
Together, we talked about:
- Recognizing when a situation becomes too much to handle alone
- Identifying trusted people we can turn to
- Speaking up when we need support
- How positive friends can help protect each other from peer pressure
- Why passing backward can sometimes be the smartest play
During training, players practiced shielding the ball, finding open teammates, communicating, and using passes to escape pressure instead of trying to force their way through defenders.
The same principle applies off the field! Recognize the pressure. Find your people. Ask for help.

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.
Every week we will share about our practical lessons, group discussion highlights, and soccer skills we learned to support our players as they Play Smart, Live Strong!
