As part of the Junior National Academy Tryouts, young players ages 9–12 took part in a special Play Smart, Live Strong lesson connecting Goal Setting with First Touch.
Players explored an important question: If your goal is to become a better player, what choices will help you get there?
Just like a good first touch gives you better control and more options on the field, smart choices off the field help keep young athletes on track toward their goals.
Sleep, nutrition, hydration, training, recovery, discipline, positive friendships, and staying away from harmful substances like alcohol and marijuana, all play a role in reaching your potential.
After the lesson, players put their skills to the test during the JNA Tryouts!
Tryouts will continue tomorrow, September 10, 2026!
- September 8 & 10, 2026
- 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
- NMISTC, Koblerville
- Must attend both sessions

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. We are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.
