What does it take to be a courageous goalkeeper? This week, our players explored how the skills used to protect the goal can also help them protect their health, their goals, and their future.

  • Pause & Think
    • Before going along with what the crowd is doing.
  • Lock Your Focus
    • On your sports and life goals when faced with bad influences.
  • Use Your Voice
    • Strong and firm “no” if someone offers alcohol or marijuana.
  • Ask For Help
    • From trusted adults when it’s too much to handle alone.

During the group discussion, players reflected on what courage means, how to respond to peer pressure, and how making a healthy decision can feel like a winning save!

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.

Every week we will share about our practical lessons, group discussion highlights, and soccer skills we learned to support our players as they Play Smart, Live Strong!
