Play Smart, Live Strong | After School Program | Lesson 2: Protect Your Brain

NMIFA - image

This week, our After School Program students learned that the choices they make now can affect how their brain works later. They learned that their brain controls everything they do on the soccer field, and that substances like alcohol and marijuana can interfere with how their brain develops. That is why we must protect our brains to protect our future!

During training, we worked on their dribbling skills. Dribbling requires focus and coordination – two things that depend on a healthy brain!

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School After School Program, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.

Every week we will share about our practical lessons, group discussion highlights, and soccer skills we learned to support our players as they Play Smart, Live Strong!
