Play Smart, Live Strong | After School Program | Lesson 4: Think First

This week, our After School Program students focused on the importance of thinking before acting. They learned that the choices they make—on and off the field—can shape their outcomes, and that taking a moment to pause can lead to better decisions.

A helpful strategy they practiced is: Stop, Think, Decide. By slowing down and considering their options, students are able to make smarter, more confident choices.

During training, we worked on their first touch. A good first touch is important because it sets up your next move—just like in life, where one decision can impact what happens next. Smart players learn to stay calm, control the ball, and think ahead.

The Play Smart, Live Strong initiative by the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association empowers our youth to make healthy choices on and off the field. Together with the Saipan Soccer School After School Program, we are using the power of soccer to promote substance-free lifestyles and reduce the risk factors related to underage drinking and marijuana use.

Every week we will share practical lessons, group discussion highlights, and soccer skills we learned to support our players as they Play Smart, Live Strong!
